The banks would rather just let them sit empty and rot.I'm on the verge of buying a house now which I was lucky to find for sale by owner before it hit the market. It's twice what I originally started out trying to pay and I'm still getting screwed by loan rules. I'm having to spend over $20K more to hire a contractor to make repairs that I had to pay the lender $600 to make a list of. None of it can be done by me, even the some stuff like putting in floor registers and painting. I also have to pay another $500+ for a consultant to oversee the repairs.
